Pedal
Pedal
The other evening, I went out to pick up dinner for the kids. While listening to one of my favorite radio stations the host shared a question her daughter had asked. The child’s question was brilliant, so I wanted to share it.
The child asked, “Mommy if you could be any part of a bicycle what would it be?”
With a smile on my face, I began to think. Without hesitation, I said out loud “the pedals”
“I would be the pedals”
who wants to be the pedals, right? They get stepped on and pushed. They are expected to hold the weight of what they carry without fail. They take a decent amount of abuse and yet I would be the pedals.
Why? I guess for me that’s simple. The pedals take you where you want to be. They drive the crank and then the chain which then moves the wheels. Allowing the rider to move forward and enjoy their ride. Push pedals back and you instantly stop.
Wow, what a concept. Not only do I hope to be the pedal that inspires and drives others forward. But I also want to be strong enough to withstand the weight of the pressure when I need to apply the brakes to slow a rogue bike down.
I smiled to myself then laughed. What a question- sometimes our kids can reveal things about us that we never expected.
So inquiring minds want to know. “If you could be a part of a bicycle what would it be?”
